All about DiSC® — Conscientious
DiSC® - Understanding the C (Conscientious) Style
Posted by Bill Harshman on
I want to start with a definition of Conscientious that we are likely familiar with to help calibrate the reader and provide a common baseline of understanding as we proceed. Oxford defines Conscientious as follows: (of a person) wishing to do what is right, especially to do one's work or duty well and thoroughly.
I’d say that’s a pretty good starting point from our daily lives. And for other words that may appeal to you, we go to the thesaurus:
- diligent
- fastidious
- meticulous
- painstaking
- complete
- exacting
DiSC® will provide much more interpretation and meaning to this style label we call Conscientious.

DiSC® - A Day in The Life of a C (Conscientious)
Posted by Bill Harshman on
My goal here is to show you how to apply DiSC® wherever you are. Use of DiSC® is about choice and intention. For example, I can go around all day being a D, leaving other styles in my wake by not choosing to use DiSC® and not being intentional. Once you make the choice, it implies an intention to prepare for mutual communication success. Here is a quick review of a couple points before we start our “Day in the Life of a C.”

Everything DiSC® - Interaction Between Styles: (C)onscientious with (C)onscientious

As a C (Conscientious) style, you thrive on ensuring accuracy, maintaining stability, and challenging assumptions. The C style is motivated by opportunities to use expertise or gain knowledge combined with attention to quality.
The C observes others with the C style as:
- Logical
- Systematic
- Reliable
- Analytical
As a C, suppose you work with a C. People with the C style would often rather focus on facts than feelings, and this might affect the way you relate to one another. They probably appreciate that you also tend to stay on task and leave personal matters out of the discussion. Furthermore, because you both focus on logic more than relationships (and neither of you is likely to push for more openness), communication between you will probably be more restricted and polite.
